BC PNP Tech Program invited 85 Tech Workers for Provincial Nominations in its New Draw
On October 19, British Columbia invited 85 tech workers for a provincial nomination through the BC PNP Tech. It is a stream under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) and is an economic immigration route used by the province to attract experienced, high-demand foreign workers.
This program provides interested and skilled international candidates a chance to work and permanently live in British Columbia.
However, the candidates who were invited through the latest draw should be eligible according to the requirements of one of British Columbia’s Express Entry BC and Skills immigration categories. This is managed by the Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
The draw had a minimum cutoff of 75 and was only for the candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate subcategories. The invited candidates are given a period of 30 days to apply for the provincial nomination.
With the latest draw in the picture, British Columbia has issued nearly 10,000 invitations since January 2021.
What is the BC PNP Tech program?
Launched in the year 2017 as a pilot program, the BC PNP was dedicated to fulfilling the shortage of talent in the province’s technology sector. It was one of the biggest issues faced by the province of British Columbia according to a labor market study.
But as the program was a huge success, BC PNP made it a permanent program. The purpose of this program is to allow British Columbia’s technology sector employers to hire skilled candidates from all over the world when the requirements are not met locally.
It is a fast-track immigration stream for in-demand tech workers and international students.
The candidates should have registered in one of the BC’s provincial streams.
They should have a valid job offer of at least 12 months under one of the 29 eligible jobs in the province. There should be at least 120 days remaining at the time of application to the BC PNP. And the job should be a full-time job.
The BC PNP Tech program sends out weekly invitations to the top-scoring candidates who meet the eligibility requirements.
The invited candidates are then asked to submit a complete application within 30 days of the invitation and later the applications would be processed within two to three months.
And upon the acceptance of the applications, the candidates will receive a nomination confirmation that can be used to apply for permanent residence.
The PNP candidates would also receive an automatic 600 CRS points, which can increase the chances of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence via Express Entry.
