IRCC continues to extend invitations to Express Entry candidates for the third consecutive day, on July 6, 2023.
In another round of invitations, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited Express Entry candidates today, targeting those eligible for category-based selection in healthcare occupations. A total of 1,500 candidates have been extended invitations, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 463. This marks the lowest CRS score in any Express Entry round of invitations issued in 2023.
Total ITAs issued: 1,500
Type of draw: Healthcare occupations
Date and time of round: July 06, 2023 14:25:05 UTC
CRS cutoff score: 463
Tie-breaking rule: June 19, 2023 06:41:05 UTC
If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
The healthcare category draw was anticipated as IRCC confirmed last week that a round of invitations would be conducted this week, specifically targeting 1,500 healthcare workers. This announcement followed the first-ever category-based draw on June 28th, which invited 500 healthcare workers with a minimum CRS score of 476.
Today’s draws follow the recent invitations issued to candidates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions on July 5th. In the previous round, 500 STEM candidates with a minimum CRS score of 486 received Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
Furthermore, in a surprising turn of events, on July 4th, IRCC invited 700 candidates in an all-program draw with a minimum CRS score of 511. In an all-program draw, Express Entry considers candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Among the six new categories introduced, healthcare occupations account for the largest number of eligible occupations, with a total of 35 options available. These categories aim to align Canada’s immigration system with the nation’s economic priorities, ensuring the selection of skilled professionals who can contribute to the healthcare sector and support the country’s growing needs.
As the Express Entry draws continue to unfold, candidates across various occupations and categories eagerly await their invitations, and the IRCC remains dedicated to selecting talented individuals who can make valuable contributions to Canada’s workforce and society.
In Canada, the contribution of immigrants to the healthcare sector is significant. They represent 23% of registered nurses, 36% of registered physicians, and 54% of dental technologists. The country heavily relies on immigration to fill urgent gaps in the labor force, particularly in healthcare. Recent job vacancy data from Statistics Canada reveals that in April 2023, there were 153,000 vacant positions in health care and social assistance, marking the highest level of vacancies across all employment sectors.
To address the growing need for skilled professionals in various sectors, including healthcare, the Canadian government introduced new categories for category-based selection Express Entry draws. This announcement followed the change made to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022. This amendment grants the immigration minister the authority to select economic immigration candidates who possess key attributes that align with Canada’s economic priorities or the minister’s mandate to promote the French language outside of Quebec.
These category-based selection draws aim to strategically attract individuals who can contribute to Canada’s economic growth and address specific labor market needs. By selecting candidates based on their attributes, such as work experience or language proficiency, Canada can better align its immigration system with its economic goals. This approach allows the country to fill crucial positions and ensure a skilled workforce that supports the overall development and prosperity of Canada.
