British Columbia invited 68 candidates in new PNP Tech Pilot Draw
In the recent BC Tech Pilot Draw, British Columbia invited 68 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on June 1. The candidates were invited to the technology and information technology sector.
Candidates received the new invitations under the Tech Pilot draw of BC, which is part of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).
To be eligible, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements of one of British Columbia’s Express Entry BC and Skills immigration categories. Both categories are managed by SIRS (Skills and Immigration Registration System). Candidates from the International Graduate and Skilled Worker subcategories with a minimum of 80 points were invited.
After receiving the invitation, candidates can apply for the nomination within 30 calendar days.
So far in 2021, British Columbia has issued 4,876 invitations to apply for provincial nomination through its PNP.
B.C’s Tech Pilot to become a permanent program
In May 2017, British Columbia launched the BC PNP Tech Pilot. This was done after a labour market study revealed that the biggest issue facing B.C.’s tech sector was access to talent.
Ever since the program was launched, it has led to more than 6,000 potential immigrants becoming nominated for PR. Owing to the program’s success it has been extended on an annual basis for the past 4 years.
The most recent extension was due in June. Following a request from various stakeholders and employers in the IT sector, British Columbia recently announced that the BC PNP Tech Pilot would become permanent.
Now called BC PNP Tech, the program will be a fast-track Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for in-demand tech workers and international students. To be eligible, candidates must:
Be registered in one of B.C.’s existing PNP streams
Have a valid job offer of at least 1 year in one of the eligible occupations
Unlike the other PNP streams of the province, candidates must have job offers under BC PNP Tech for a minimum of one year, with at least 120 days remaining at the time of application to the BC PNP. The job offer must be full-time and from an eligible employer in Alberta.
Under the tech program, eligible candidates will receive invitations weekly.
After receiving invitation, candidates have 30 days to submit their complete application. Post submission, most tech applications will be processed within two to three months.
After approval, candidates will receive a nomination confirmation that can be used to apply for PR from IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) under the Provincial Nominee Program Class.
