Eligibility/ Qualifications for Power Engineer
- The following prerequisites, which apply to all power engineers and power system operators, must be met by a power engineer (NOC 9241).
- A secondary school certification is required after graduation.
- Power engineers must complete a degree program in power engineering or stationary engineering and have a good amount of relevant work experience.
- According to the class, power engineers require a provincial or territorial stationary engineering or power engineering certificate.
- Stationary engineer trade certification is required for the provinces of Nova Scotia and Quebec, per the class (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class). This certificate is optional for New Brunswick.
- Power system operators must have between three and five years of experience in the trade, or at least three years of work experience and/or experience in any college-level or professional courses in electronic and electrical technology.
- Having a trade certification is required, and power system operators must volunteer as well in Newfoundland and Labrador.
