Canada conducted its latest all-program Express Entry draw on October 26.
Since all-program drawings commenced on July 6, this is the ninth drawing.
A total of 4,750 candidates were invited for PR in the recent draw, where the minimum CRS score or Comprehensive Ranking System score was 496. The invitations could belong to applicants from the following subcategories:
The Canadian Express Entry draws had faced a halt for over a period of 18 months since December 2020. The candidates who qualified or were eligible for the PNPs or CEC got the ITAs even through the hiatus. The reason for the long halt on the Express Entry program was the travel ban due to the pandemic.
Since the drawings commenced, the CRS has stayed below 500 until this draw. The last time when the Express Entry score was so low was on December 23, 2020. All-program Express Entry draws were put on hold following that draw in order to prevent the pile of applications for permanent resident status from growing.
The eight prior drawings where the number of applicants grew as the CRS score gradually declined show that IRCC is able to raise the number of ITAs it grants by lowering the CRS score.
Every year, IRCC publishes a new plan year with a target for the number of immigrants Canada expects to accept in the upcoming years.
The statistics are further subdivided by immigrant category and related programs. Via Express Entry, the Immigration Levels Plan aimed to bring in 55,900 additional permanent residents by 2022. Canada has so far invited over 28,000 immigrants for PR, via the Express Entry program. By November 1 of this year, a new Immigration Levels Strategy is anticipated to be released.
The Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program all use Express Entry as their applicant management system. Applicants for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the Express Entry pool are already qualified for at minimum one of these schemes.
The CRS score is a point-based system. It counts a number of factors to determine the overall score of candidates in the pool and rank them while the draw takes place. The elements are age, educational level, work experience, etc. The higher the scores, the greater the chances of getting the ITA.
