IRCC Issues ITAs to Healthcare Occupation Candidates in the Latest Express Entry Draw

On the 14th of February, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its second Express Entry draw of the week, issuing invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates in the healthcare occupations category. A total of 3,500 candidates were invited, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 422.
This draw followed a general draw on February 13, where 1,490 candidates, with a minimum CRS score of 535, received ITAs. Notably, in 2024, there was another category-based selection draw on February 1, targeting candidates with strong French language proficiency. This draw invited 7,000 candidates, marking the largest draw of the year thus far.
In January, three general draws were held, inviting a total of 3,280 candidates. The minimum CRS scores for these draws ranged between 546 and 541.

Details of the draw: February 14, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Express Entry Draw Results Summary for 2024:

Date Draw Type Number of ITAs Minimum CRS
    February 14 Healthcare Occupations 3500 422

Category-based selection rounds were introduced in May 2023, with IRCC creating six new categories targeting specific human capital attributes. These categories include healthcare occupations, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, trades occupations, transport occupations, and agriculture and agri-food occupations.

To be considered for category-based selection, candidates must be eligible for an Express Entry program and have an application in the pool through one of the three programs.

The selection of these categories followed consultations with stakeholders such as provincial and territorial governments, employers, immigration researchers, and settlement services to identify critical gaps in Canada’s labor force.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an application management system overseeing three economic immigration programs for skilled workers: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. It employs the Comprehensive Ranking System to evaluate candidates based on various human capital factors. Candidates with the highest CRS scores are most likely to receive an invitation in an upcoming Express Entry draw.
Upon receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit their final application to IRCC for permanent resident status in Canada.
