    Express Entry draw of 2023

On February 2nd, IRCC performed the fourth Express Entry draw of 2023.
Invitations were sent to 3,300 applicants who had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 489 by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Since Express Entry launched in 2015, the draw was only eligible to applicants to the Federal Skilled Worker Program. After the announcement on February 1 in which only applicants who had already secured provincial nomination received an ITA, this was the second program-specific draw of 2023.

Express Entry Draw Record In 2023

IRCC holds the Express Entry draws on Wednesdays, every alternate week. The protocol seen since Express Entry was launched in 2015 has changed for the draws in 2023. Following the draw on November 23, there was an unexpected six-week break until the first draw of this year took place on January 11. The introduction of NOC 2021 may have triggered an IT system malfunction, according to IRCC.
On January 11, 5,500 eligible candidates with minimum CRS scores of 507 received the invitations. Since all program draws were resumed following an 18-month pandemic break between December 2020 and July 2022, there were the most applicants and the lowest CRS cut-off score. The same number of applicants was invited to another lottery the next week on January 18 with a substantially lower minimum CRS score of 490. Since IRCC typically does not give ITAs to candidates over a two-week period, this draw caught everyone off guard.

The Express Entry lottery is held by IRCC only for PNP applicants.

The most recent draw, which took place on February 1 after an anticipated two-week break, was the first since June 2022 to only invite Express Entry applicants who had obtained a provincial nomination. Even prior to the epidemic, the IRCC rarely held program-specific draws. Nearly all Express Entry drawings have been all-program draws, with a few notable outliers for the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Since the all-program draw suspension during the COVID-19 epidemic, the IRCC has not conducted an Express Entry draw for PNP-only candidates. For applicants in the Express Entry pool who had already acquired a provincial nomination, draws for Express Entry continued during the hiatus.
A candidate’s Express Entry application will immediately gain 600 more CRS points if they are nominated by a province.
