IRCC Holds Second Express Entry Draw of the Week: French Language Proficiency Draw

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates in the Express Entry system for the second time this week.
The immigration department of Canada issued 1,400 ITAs in a draw centred on French Language Proficiency, on the 24th of April, 2024.

Details of the draw: 24th April 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Following a general draw on April 23rd, today’s draw has been initiated. IRCC extended invitations to 2,095 candidates, requiring a minimum CRS score of 410. This score reflects a reduction of 20 points from the previous general draw on April 10, where the threshold was 549, marking the highest minimum score for the year.
In addition, another draw occurred earlier this month, precisely on April 11th. This draw marked the year’s first draw for Express Entry contenders eligible under the category-based selection for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) occupations. IRCC invited 4,500 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 491.
Eligible candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 410 to qualify.

    What is category-based selection?

In May 2023, IRCC unveiled category-based selection draws to streamline focus on Express Entry aspirants possessing prized human capital attributes, like linguistic prowess or profession.

Following discussions with IRCC associates and stakeholders, the definitive categories for 2023 were outlined. In early 2024, IRCC confirmed the continuity of these categories for the entire year.

    The categories encompass:

For candidates in occupation-centric categories, a prerequisite entails a minimum of six months of uninterrupted full-time work experience within a qualifying occupation over the preceding three years.
Those eligible under the category for French proficiency must have French-language test results showing a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique Canadians.
