Canada Issues 1,470 Invitations in a General Draw

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended invitations to a greater number of candidates to apply for permanent residence (PR) through the Express Entry system, on 28th February.
In the latest draw, the department issued 1,470 invitations to apply (ITAs) in a general draw for candidates from all Express Entry programs. Applicants were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 534.
This draw comes on the heels of three others that took place between February 13-16th. On February 13th, IRCC conducted its second general draw of the month, inviting 1,490 candidates with a minimum CRS of 535. After this, two targeted draws for healthcare and agriculture and agri-food occupations were held, with CRS requirements of at least 422 and 437, respectively.

Details of the draw: February 28, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

    What is category-based selection?

In May 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection rounds of invitations, creating six new categories targeting specific human capital attributes. One category is for candidates demonstrating proficiency in the French language, while the remaining five are occupation-based for:
Candidates must be eligible for an Express Entry program and have an application in the pool through one of the three programs to be considered for category-based selection. These categories were chosen after consultations with stakeholders, including provincial and territorial governments, employers, immigration researchers, and settlement services, to address critical gaps in Canada’s labor force and target candidates best suited to fill vacant positions
