In the latest Express Entry draw held on October 27, 888 express entry candidates were invited for PNP. This draw was the fourth consecutive round of invitations that invited only the PNP candidates.
According to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the cutoff score for this Express Entry draw was 744, where all the invited candidates were awarded an automatic 600 points for the provincial nomination from a PNP and the minimum marks required, apart from those 600 points, was 144 only.
This draw is said to be the third-largest draw of its kind, the second being the one held on June 9 that invited 940 candidates and the largest was on June 23 that invited 1002 candidates.
IRCC had invited 681 candidates in the previous PNP draw with a cutoff score of at least 720.
Since the pandemic, Canada has only been holding Express Entry draws, targeting the PNP and Canadian Experience Class candidates. But the CEC draws, which are typically larger than PNP draws due to more candidates, have been on halt since September.
This has reduced the number of invitations issued to the Express Entry candidates, over the past month.
Even if it has reduced comparatively, Canada still has set a record this year by inviting 111,265 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence since 2021 January.
In 2020, Canada had invited a total of 107,350 immigration candidates.
The increasing number of PNP draws have increased the cutoff as well, due to the automatic 600 points awarded for being nominated for a PNP.
Who is Canada’s new Immigration Minister?
Fraser overtook Marco Mendocino as the new Public Safety Minister on October 26. Now forth, the new minister would be responsible for approving new policies and announcing the government initiatives related to immigration.
IRCC can now re-start taking major decisions on the Express Entry strategy and other programs as well.
Express Entry System is the most famous and fast-tracked immigration program of Canada, which has a procedure period of 6-8 months. It is used to meet the labor market demand of the country through three federal high-skilled immigration programs:
Candidates in the Express Entry Pool are ranked by their CRS score and the ones with the highest scores are invited through the regular Express Entry draws to apply for permanent residence. The candidates can apply for a direct Express Entry stream by skipping the PNPs. But holding a PNP nomination can add up extra 600 points to the CRS score, hence increasing the chances of getting an ITA for Permanent Residency in a subsequent express entry draw.
