Express Entry Draw Welcomes 3,000 Canadian Experience Class Applicants to Canada

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Department (IRCC) has recently dispatched invitations to apply (ITAs) through the Express Entry program on 31st May 2024.
The department distributed 3,000 ITAs in a targeted draw for candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program.
Candidates had to achieve a minimum score of 522 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to qualify.

Details of the draw: May 31, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

    More about the draw:

Today’s draw marks the second of the week, following a specialized draw on May 30 for Express Entry candidates nominated through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This is the first draw specifically tailored for CEC candidates since September 14, 2021. Notably, it featured the lowest CRS score requirement for a non-category-based draw this year.
These draws signify the first program-specific selections since the adoption of category-based selection in May 2023. They reflect IRCC’s commitment to conducting more “domestic draws” to facilitate the transition of temporary residents to permanent residency and to decrease the overall number of temporary residents in Canada.
Program-specific draws exclusively consider candidates under specific permanent residency programs from the Express Entry pool, unlike general draws that encompass applicants from all programs.

    About previous draws:

The May 30 draw was the first Express Entry draw since April 24, following a hiatus of one month. While IRCC hasn’t disclosed the reason for the pause, they mentioned in a recent Access to Information Request that all draws this year would adhere to a predetermined schedule, undisclosed to the public. Draw size and frequency will be determined based on admission targets for 2024 and 2025, and processing capacity may also play a role.
Before the pause, there were four draws in April. The initial draw on April 10 invited 1,280 candidates, followed by a category-based selection draw for STEM occupations the next day, granting 4,500 ITAs to candidates. The remaining two draws occurred on April 23 and 24, inviting 2,095 and 1,400 candidates, respectively.
As per recent Access to Information, French proficiency is expected to be a key factor in category-based selection draws in 2024 due to the high employability of bilingual candidates. STEM occupations will receive the second-highest number of ITAs at 25%, followed by healthcare occupations at 15%. Transport, trades, and agriculture and agri-food categories will account for 5% or less of all ITAs issued in such draws this year.
The remaining 21.5% of ITAs were slated to be issued in general draws, with no mention of program-specific draws.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry serves as a platform managing three of Canada’s leading economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
While each program has distinct eligibility criteria, they all undergo assessment using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Through CRS, candidates receive scores based on various human capital factors, including work experience, occupation, language proficiency, age, education, and whether they are immigrating with a spouse or partner.
Scores are tallied to determine candidates’ final CRS score. Higher scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA in subsequent Express Entry draws.
In May 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates with specific work experience or language skills. These categories include healthcare occupations, STEM professions, trades occupations, transport occupations, agriculture and agri-food occupations, and strong French proficiency. These categories are expected to remain unchanged in 2024, but adjustments may occur in 2025.
Immigration candidates must be in the Express Entry pool and meet category-specific requirements to be considered.
