Canada invites 1,490 in new Express Entry draw

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its latest Express Entry draw on February 13, issuing 1,490 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a general draw. Candidates were required to attain a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 535.
In 2024, IRCC has organized a total of five draws thus far. The initial draw on January 10 invited 1,510 candidates with a minimum CRS of 546 in a general draw. Subsequently, two more general draws were held on January 23, inviting 1,040 candidates with a minimum CRS of 543, and on January 31, inviting 730 candidates with a minimum score of 541.
The most substantial draw of the year occurred on February 1, where 7,000 candidates were invited in a category-based selection draw for Express Entry candidates with French language proficiency.

New Language Test to Be Allowed For Immigration

Additionally, effective January 30, IRCC has expanded the options for English language testing by accepting the Pearson Test of English Core (PTE) for all immigration streams, excluding the Student Direct Stream. This provides Express Entry candidates with an alternative when submitting their language proficiency results to the IRCC website.
Candidates must achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score, which varies based on the Express Entry managed program they are applying for, evaluating their language ability in reading, speaking, listening, and writing. For instance, Federal Skilled Worker Program applicants need a CLB of 7 in all categories, while Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates require a score of 7 for NOC TEER categories 0 or 1, and CLB 5 for categories 2 or 3. Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates need a minimum CLB level of 5 for speaking and listening and at least level 4 for reading and writing.
The PTE is now the third option for Express Entry candidates to submit their English language test results to IRCC, alongside the CELPIP General and IELTS General Training. IRCC approved the inclusion of PTE as an accepted language test last year.
